GUIDELINES FOR SAVING FILES FOR OUTPUT
Requirements:
- Before we can output, we must have a current hard copy of what the finished
piece will look like.We will not proceed without a hard copy for reference.
- All fonts and all linked graphics must accompany files.Without fonts or
linked graphics, we cannot correctly output your files.
- Make sure documents which bleed have an 1/8th inch bleed all around.
Scanning:
- All full color digital scans should be in CMYK format, not RGB.
- Scanned images should be saved in .tif (Tagged Image File) format.
- Lineart images should be at least 1200 dpi when scanned in lineart mode.
- All halftone images should be at least 300 dpi at the final output size.
Quark Xpress, PageMaker and InDesign:
- Please use the same name for all spot colors. ex: Pantone 286 uncoated
and Pantone 286 coated are recognized as two different spot colors
and will separate on different plates.
Illustrator and Freehand:
- It is recommended that you save the Illustrator or Freehand image as an
EPS and place in either Quark Xpress or Pagemaker.
- It is recommended to convert all fonts to paths to insure compatibility.
(Convert to paths is undoable, so save a copy)
Downloading Files Onto Disk:
- Always include all screen and printer fonts. (Dont forget fonts you
used in your EPS/Linked graphic files)
- For collecting all your files for output, you should use:
- For Quark Xpress the Collect for Output Command.
- For Pagemaker choose the Copy: All linked files from your
save as command.
- PageMaker 6.5 and 7 also uses the save for service provider command
under the plug-ins menu. The plug in will automatically pre-flight your
file and give you a troubleshooting report for missing links or fonts.
- For indesign use the Package command
- For Microsoft Publisher use the Pack and Go command
*The Microsoft Office Programs are not traditional publishing programs and
do not support many of the features needed
for setup and output. For example, color separations, ganged-up (multiple-up)
printing, step & repeat, orientation, etc.
